Navigate and Negotiate With Nature.

Learn to pay attention to animals, to the situation around you, and to your own response. This is the direction for an education program grounded in Casey’s experience in the field.

The approach

Begin with what you can observe.

A glimpse of an animal can leave you with an impression before you have understood the situation. Learning begins by looking more carefully: at behavior, surroundings, space and change.

The proposed program brings animal behavior together with fear, judgment and fieldcraft. Its purpose is to help people understand encounters and make better-informed choices. Species, place and conditions matter; experience includes recognizing the limits of what you know.

Start reading

Two useful starting points.

These introductory notes outline the questions behind the learning program. They are a place to begin a conversation, rather than a substitute for local guidance or practical instruction.

  • Reading the wild

Separate observation from assumption, and give the whole situation your attention.

  • Understanding fear

Explore what an uneasy moment asks of your judgment and preparation.

What comes next

Build the teaching around real questions.

Lessons, masterclasses and a continuing learning community are possibilities the team is considering. There is no course schedule, paid membership or enrollment open on this site.

The next step is to understand what people want to learn and which formats the team can deliver well. Tell us whether your interest is animal behavior, outdoor judgment, fieldcraft, teaching children, or something you have encountered yourself.
